Really enjoyed reading all of the above. I just took delivery of a Bessa R3A and a 40mm 1.4 lens. To add to the range of cameras mentioned above here are my cameras;

Voigtlander Bessa R3A
Bronica GS-1
Yashica 124
Ricoh GXR
Nikon D300
Lomo SprocketRocket

What I'm learning is choosing the film and lens combination together with what kind of final result I'm looking for usually helps the selection. The bessa is new and early signs are that it's a great little camera, super build quality and LOTS OF FUN!

Taking pictures is a real pleasure. I get some funning looks when I'm lugging the Bronica about and using the Yashica for landscapes. I have an agreement from a local store to let me have all of their out of date film and slide film. Awesome for cross processing.

Happy days!

Thanks for that. Have fun with your R3A! I still use mine occasionally and it's brilliant.

Hi there. The R3A behaves normally with the 35mm lens. So far focusing with the patch has been fine, although I do quite often pre-focus with the distance scale on the lens instead. Only frame lines are projected in the FOV, and seeing as though they're not accurate for the 35mm anyway, there are no issues. You have to estimate parallax error though on your own when compsoing.

Good afternoon, just a question.
Exactly how the R3A behaves with a 35mm lens mounted? You say one may look at the whole viewfinder but focusing is still done through the patch or you have to estimate on the distance scale of the lens? That is, will coupled rangefinder and times work properly ? Thanks

Hello Arran,

I just ordered my R3a and Voigtlander 40mm f/1.4 today. Not much information from users available about this camera, especially in comparison to the DSLRS I use (and review). It's nice to read a bit of a refreshing take on this camera and get any insight at all. Hope you still use it, looking forward myself of diving into RF territory.

Cheers!

I had a busnell laser range finder that my son got hold off and dropped out the windown of his second floor bedroom. Luckily, it still works... Dont' know what I'd do without that gadget!

haha.. i can't afford another camera right now so not even going to try.
think i'd prefer getting a medium format if anything..

and yeah, scanning is a pain. wish you could just feed an entire a roll into them and leave them to do their business.
i have the nikon coolscan iv which is great quality, can take strips of 6 but is still a slow ass process.
