Well last year i saw some pictures a guy took with a home made pinhole adapter for his DSLR. The results were quite interesting, and thought it’d be fun to try out. All you really need is a body cap for your camera and a piece of aluminium foil. I didn’t have a spare one at the time so never bothered with it, but last year i bought one for about $1 when i was in Japan and thought it’d be good for this project. Last week i finally got around to making the pinhole body cap and had some fun testing it out.
Here are some pictures i took around my house the day i made the pinhole cap. It was raining outside so i couldn’t get any external shots which is what i originally wanted.
I didn’t apply any post processing to these shots, besides one that i stitched together.

*This one was made from two photos stitched together.
It was all a bit of trial and error, and conditions weren’t ideal, but i think the feel of them are quite interesting, and i look forward to trying the pinhole adapter outside.
Oh here’s a picture of my homemade pinhole body cap clearly crafted to the highest quality and standards….
All you do is drill a hole in the plastic body cap (can be any size you want really). Then you get some aluminium foil, put a tiny hole in it with a pin, and stick the aluminium foil to the body cap so the pinhole is as close to the middle as possible. That’s it!

Finished with the OM1 now. Works and looks great (except for a couple little bumps on it). Will put a roll through it soon.
Below is a pic i took with my digital camera the other night. I got bit of an unusual result. It actually looks like it was taken with a film camera i think. I didn’t apply any post processing to the photo at all besides bringing the levels in a little. I personally like how it came out.

Well the other day i realised that i had never tried out HDR processing. I also noticed that i’d never tried making panoramas, so i thought i’d give both manipulations a go. I went back looking through some old photos and found a set that might be suitable. As it turns out, the pictures weren’t that brilliant as they were taken through a glass window and lacked a fair bit of detail and sharpness for a good HDR, but i thought it would be a good opportunity to practice anyway. I tried very hard to not get that typical shitty over processed look that HDR images often produce, so i think i accomplished that atleast.
Below is my panorama and HDR of a view from a hotel room i was staying in when visiting Hong Kong last year. I think it turned out ok considering the original pictures i started with. Now that i know how HDR’s and Pano stitching works, i think i can take some pictures that will produce a better result next time.

**Here is another version i did without the crop, and more playing around with the colours.. I kind of like it. Definately not perfect though..

Well i’ve been meaning to make one for a while now, and this afternoon i finally did it.
All you need to do is cut out the sides of a cardboard box and cover it with white paper/tracing paper/white plastic etc… Only took about 10 minutes also which was good as my concentration span doesnt often last much longer than that.
The idea is that the light box provides a nice soft even light source to the object placed inside. Its best to have the same type of light on the outside to help with white-balance etc. As you can see my white balances are off as i ended up using 4 completely different light sources, which wasnt ideal.
I think i got an ok result for a first time. I need to work on focusing and composition, aswell as exposure and controlling the harshness of the lights a bit more.. So basically everything..
I’m looking forward to giving it another go.
Here are a few of my results so far (yeah, white balance is pretty badly out).

Oh, and here is my dodgy setup complete with messy room

Seen this little guy a few times in and around the CBD. Felt like getting a photo of him before he’s tagged over or pulled down.

Went down to La Perouse a little whie ago with a friend to kill some time. Took a few photos, but never really looked at them after they were uploaded onto the computer. The other night i stumbled across them again, and thought i’d try out some funky post processing on them. My skills with photoshop are very limited, as i dont spend much time on it at all, especially editing photos. I usually lose interest after about 5 minutes. Thats what attracts me to film photography, all the work is done for you! haha.. well not exactly, but you know what i mean.
Anyway, so this is one of the pictures i was working on. It’s still not 100% but thought i’d post it up anyway, as i kind of like it.
Oh, and if you dont know anything about La Perouse, here is some light reading for you : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Perouse,_New_South_Wales
